Charcoal, acrylics, watercolour, mixed media — each medium brings its own rhythm. Some demand control; others reward surrender. Working across all of them has taught me more than mastery of any single one ever could.
Discipline and surrender
Graphite and charcoal are the disciplines. They strip colour away and force you to rely on value alone — the architecture of light and dark that holds every image together, no matter the medium.
Watercolour and pastel are the surrender. Pigment finds its own path; you set the conditions and then let go. Acrylic and pen are the commitment — build boldly, layer fearlessly.
Versatility, for me, is simply curiosity made into practice.
Embracing this versatility hasn't diluted my voice — it's deepened it. Each medium feeds the others: the tonal discipline of charcoal sharpens my acrylics, the freedom of watercolour loosens my drawing.
